PuLID (Pure and Lightning ID Customization) is an advanced, tuning-free method designed for customizing identities in text-to-image (T2I) generation models. It allows users to embed specific identities, such as a person's face, into pre-trained T2I models without disrupting the model's original capabilities. PuLID achieves high fidelity to the user's identity while minimizing impact on the model's overall behavior, enabling personalized image generation that maintains consistency in image elements like background, lighting, composition and style.
How does PuLID work?
PuLID incorporates a Lightning T2I branch alongside a standard diffusion branch in the image generation process. It utilizes a combination of face recognition models and CLIP image encoders to extract identity features from provided images. The system then applies contrastive alignment loss and accurate ID loss to ensure high identity fidelity. PuLID employs a careful construction of contrastive pairs and precise calculation of ID loss to maintain the balance between personalization and preserving the original model's behavior. For inference, PuLID can use a distilled guidance scale to simulate the true CFG process with reduced computational requirements.
