Download and install the Backyard AI Desktop App: Go to https://update.backyard.ai/download/windows and download the installer for Windows 10 or 11. Run the installer to set up the app on your computer.

Launch the Backyard AI Desktop App: Open the installed Backyard AI app on your computer. The app will automatically configure itself to use your GPU and local hardware.

Choose an AI language model: Select from the 100+ available language models to power your AI interactions. New models are added weekly.

Create or select an AI character: Either create your own custom AI character or choose from the 1,000+ pre-made characters available in the Character Hub.

Start chatting with your AI character: Begin interacting with your chosen AI character through text chat. You can engage in roleplaying, storytelling, or general conversation.

Customize your experience (optional): Explore additional features like text-to-speech voices, lorebooks, author's notes, grammars, and model parameters to enhance your AI interactions.

Use mobile tethering (optional): To access your local AI setup remotely, enable mobile tethering. This allows you to interact with your AI characters from a web browser on other devices.
